Student collapses during track competition at Tigard middle school

A Tigard police officer and an off-duty Beaverton officer provided aid to the student when he collapsed.

TIGARD, Ore. — A 14-year-old student collapsed during a track competition at a Tigard middle school on Thursday evening.

A Tigard police officer and an off-duty Beaverton officer provided aid to the student when he collapsed shortly before 6 p.m.

The Beaverton officer, Steve Anderson, happened to be a spectator at the event at Fowler Middle School. Anderson gave CPR to the student. The Tigard officer, Scott Sanders, used an automated external defibrillator (AED) on the student.

The teen was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
